After finishing a grueling New Balance Pacesetters 15km a month ago without much preparations I decided to put the half marathon attempt behind settle for a 10km instead. The DOMS was bad, needless to say but I wouldn't want to risk injuring my left arch again. 10km is a much more comfortable run and I could do it at a much relaxed pace. Probably this time I'll work on a PB and try to finish it within an hour.

The 2hr 45 mins Lunck Break

So the whole 8 weeks of clinical postings in KKB has finally came to an end and was also time to hit our last project in our to-do list. Neither of us had been up Frasier's and I had very vague memory of being up there despite flipping through the old pictures of me in pajamas up there 20 years ago.

So we decided to spend our last Friday lunch break in Frasier's.

Little did we know that there's regulated traffic control going up Luckily we managed to reach the top at in nick of time after the sharp and horrifying winding journey up.

I was this close kissing the floor the my feet touched the ground. Cindy and me was battling with our glottis with a bottle of assam in our hands trying to keep our branch from coming out.

We had exactly one and a half hour in total to spend before the time of the horrifying journey down again so we decided to have our last (ta po-wed) hainanese chicken rice at the waterfalls.

In summary : the trip up there was indeed refreshing and it was worth the sharp and winding nausea tic journey up. There might not be a second trip up again for me but the experience was worth the thumbs up.

Good bye KKB. Will see u when I see. Thanks for the memories!

It is already the 5th week of clinical posting in KKB (KualaKubuBaru). How time flies. I remembered brooding and crying to everyone I know about surviving the horrifying 2 months of boredom over there then life over there was much exciting that I could imagine. We have visited alot of places and have done the randomest thing ever here.

Working in the hospital wasn't that bad after all in fact it reminded me of the days in HKL but in much smaller department but I still do miss being with the old folks in the old folks home in Rumah Ehsan. Hearing them speak and smile without their dentures looks so cute la.

and speaking of cute. Darryl sent me this pic of grass Bunnies he passed along the streets and don't you think they are the cutest thing to have in your home?

Darryl promised to kidnap one of them back for me =) be patient there little bunnies cause u'll be in my room real soon!

Note : some of these posts are dated prolly few weeks to months ago. It wasn't the internet's fault this time. I have lost the mojo to blog and I think its slowly coming back now hence the delayed posts.

It only took us 5 minutes to decide whether or not to feast on durians right before dinner. Darryl maned some calls and brought his DJ entourage along for the feast.

It wasn't a very wise thing to do when you are planning to have seafood steamboat after that. And the weird thing during dinner we managed to eat double the amount of food which we used on days where we puasa in the afternoon.

The boys can really really eat.

It felt so surreal when the death of King of Pop. Turned out it wasn't a hoax or joke. I have always been a great fan of him at a very young age as I remember stealing my parents precious collection of cd and play it on my dicsman and attempting the moonwalk with my brother with our school socks after coming back from school (which we failed miserably of course).

It no fun being sick under such horrifying weather and I've been pumping myself with doses and doses of Vit.C and clarinase hoping it will go clear off before the run on Sunday.

It was about a month ago or so I spent another fortune in the Adidas warehouse sale in Atria. The place was very much smaller place compared to the one in Taman Tun last year but at lease the crowd did not try to bring down the guards and break the glass door this time.

And of course you never come back form the sale empty handed despite the long wait won't you?

I could finally retire my old pair of adiGoodYear. My super pronated flat foot have pretty much distorted the whole shape of the shoe. On the other hand, I managed to find adizero's shorts and tops for the run at a very very cheap bargain too!

Duan Wu Jie ( Rice Dumpling festival)

Coming back from class, I only realized it was zong chit after my roommate left 2 dumplings on my table. I vaguely remember the real story behind it but it had something to do loyalty and suicide.

Sad and angry at the corrupted, dying Kingdom, Qu Yuan tied himself to a big rock and threw himself into the River of Puo Luo. The people then made rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and threw them into the river. They believed this would stop the fish from eating Qu Yuan's body. Some would even row down stream in a boat, beating drums and shouting out loud in the hope to scare the fish away (it was believed that it is how the Dragon Boat event is related to the festival.

Since then, the 5th day of the 5th month in the Chinese calendar has been set as Duan Wu Festival to remember the incident. Although there were versions of legends and stories that indicate Duan Wu has existed way before Qu Yuan's death, the tradition still carries on.

X-Men Origins : Wolverine Review

To begin with, I have always been a big fan of the X-Men since a small kid but unfortunately, “X-Men Origins : Wolverine” was a total let down. Overall, the story line was ok but the actors FAILED big time with their parts. The movie was too predictable and the actors were the worst I’ve seen. The flying and jumping scenes were just the worst. And I thought I had seen the end of old Chinese type of flying scenes (storm rider style). The damn scene where Wolverine cut down the metal ladder with Gambit on it was just plain stupid. The CG of the whole show was poorly done and in my opinion, the director did a poor job with the whole movie and the actors were just not right for the movie.

In comparison to Batman: The Dark Knight, this movie scores a measly 2 out of 10 for acting. I felt that Jackman could have played the character better and the other mutants could have done a much better job with their acting and dialog. I would go on with each of the characters but doubt that those reading this would be pleased to know how the story goes. But who cares? In the first place, Wolverine did not volunteer to be part of the weapon x program but instead, was captured to be an experiment. Sabretooth on the other hand, only got his rapid healing abilities later on with the help of Apocalypse and then he was able to go through the same adamantium bonding process as Wolverine did. In the movie, he would have been dead long ago with all those injuries.

Emma Frost in the movie is the sister of Silverfox (Wolverine's girl) but in the comics, Emma Frost did not have diamond skin. WHAT NONSENSE! the characters were altered in the movie. And Silverfox is suppose to have self healing abilities instead of persuasion powers! Gambit looked like Willy Wonka in the damn movie. The CG was horrible. The fight scenes were too predictable. Deadpool appeared to be awesome but died a little too easily in the end. TOTAL LETDOWN!! In summary, just watch the show once and don't bother spending money on another ticket for the show.

We had a pretty fun session for practical today. Taping and splinting for pediatric foot deformities and Taping happen to be my favourite topic. So despite of the 5 hours sleep I could still keep my eyes open through the whole session.

The most common foot deformities in padiatrics are usually Club Foot (Congenital Talipes Equinovarus) and Calcaneo Valgus both shows different abnormal deviation of the foot. Good news is that it can be corrected in the early stages with few sessions of stretching, taping and splinting and the child can start running!

So today's practical session was quite a challenge, it was pretty difficult practicing on an adults foot when it comes to applying the correct pressure and tension of the tape knowing how soft and tiny babies feet are.

And they decided to practice on a person with the smallest feet.

Project 365 - Day 3

It looks very similar to the brace that Forrest Gump had on his knees when Jenny shouted run! Forrest run! But that is how a brace would look like on a child if his/her deformity can't be managed conservatively.

The taping wasn't difficult but it was the removing that was painful. Not very much for me, but we could hear the guys shouting their lungs off. It was a funny sight to look at =)

Start wearing my climbing shoes at lease twice a day to stretch it as much as possible. After 3 to 4 climbs I start feeling my toes being ran over by a car. So by hook or by crook it has to be stretched!

Dojo

Project 365 - Day 1

Snapped some shots of the bro practicing tae kwan do for his upcoming club activity in the Dojo. The Dojo was a project of dad and Han's. 4 years ago, the 'Judo' was called the bloodsucking yard that none of us dare to step foot in, terrorized by the scourge of mosquitoes which sticks to you within 3 seconds. Until when Han started picking up TKD dad decided to use it a their training ground in the evenings calling it the Dojo now.

That's why you'll probably notice the punching bag pole almost reaching my brother's height. It took me awhile to finally brave myself into the 'battle field' and I kindda like the zen look with the little crawlies on the wall now.

Han looks slight blur in the picture but I like the flying kick effect in it.

The one thing that has always been the top of our list is good Food. Darryl and I have always been dupe when it comes to food that satisfies our taste buds.

And we do have something in common too - neither of us eats pork but we love bat-kut-teh! The shop in Old Town serves the tastiest bakuteh sup ever.

Real justice done! We polished everything including 3 bowls of the extra soup added. What happened to all the pork? No we do not waste food.

We had kok yang who enjoyed all the pork to himself.

It was so good to the point that someone starting wishing for more soup everyday.

Hint: you don't get to see this kind of satisfactory that often ;)

The broken tape recorder

In class today, one of my lecturer ends every of his sentence with "ok" and he said 85 ok's in 5 minutes. Trust me it sounds far worst than a broken tape recorder can sound . And we just came to know we're having a straight 4 hour class with him the whole afternoon. Just not a very ok way to start your day.

On the other hand, I'm officially a year 3 student now!

Few days ago mum was cleaning up the fridge and she mentioned something about throwing away a box of sweets which has been there for quite sometime.

So I opened it and guess what I found?

They were my fav piggy gummy I bought from Aussie sometime ago and I have been eating it too sparingly and carefully keeping it until I forgot they were hidden under the bottles of juices and sauces.

They still taste good and no way they're going into the bin!

While lazing around after dropping grandma home from breakfast, I found this old picture hanging on the wall. It has been there for some time but it never really did occur to me how long was it last taken and the details of it.

It was our very first year when we moved down to Terengganu and our time of our life playing along the shores of the South China Sea which was nevertheless the best childhood memories we had along the years. And this is one of the cutest and my favourite picture of Han during his toddler days.

After 11 years, he is now the bigger and taller one in pictures and gone were my days of the mushroomed hairstyle.

And next thing we know it will be another 10 years where we'll be called aunty and uncle instead.

BMW Performance Days

2 weekends ago after polishing our bowl of fish head noodles Darryl decided to pay his sifu a visit at the BMW Driver Training in Subang Airport. Along the way were stings of other BMs and Jaguar along with some pretty awesome luxury cars.

It was indeed a fun and exciting event despite being under the scorching sun but having to hear the screeching tire sounds was simply gratifying !

Darryl and his sifu, Aaron who was the official photographer for the whole event with their intimidating lens.

I'm still new in the whole car photography and this was my very first car photo shoot. Getting the correct angle of cars isn't as easy as it looks. After going through the whole album this particular picture happen to be one of my best shots of the day. A little bit of touch up here and there pretty much sums up the whole event and the beauty of my favourite car !

I tasted probably one of the best nasi lemak in town since I moved out from the East Coast. What made it cool was that it came in a tiffin carrier which brought me back to my primary school days where I have my lunch during kelas tambahan in that tiffin carrier too.

Well known for their Otak-Otak, I personally prefer the nasi lemak best but the Otak with egg and Otak sticks are not that bad too.

So enough about food for now and back to studies. -__-

I witnessed the first death of a patient (which so happen happened to be my patient that I was assigned to 2 days ago). Back then, she was breathing on her own, responsive giving us full cooperation while we stretch her both severely contracted knees complaining of pain in her mother tongue, which we found really cute of her judging from her facial expression.

I was in another ward the next day and there was an unusual monitor sound coming from the other cubicle and next thing I knew the doctor's were taking turns performing CPR on her. Time of death was announced after half an hour and the nurses were starting to clean her body. My friend and me were both shocked with her sudden death but we tried looking over the bright side that she has gone for a better place.

Then came a series of an unfortunate event throughout the whole afternoon which I wouldn't want to elaborate on.

2 weeks.... Can't wait for it to be over.

My Sunday was spent with the most adorable dog.

2 months ago, Sandy was found in Sandy park by Darryl and his friends. The poor dog was frantically running in circles trying to find his way home under the rain and despite of the guys knocking at every door in the neighbourhood, there was no sign of her home.

Luckily one of Darryl's juniors were kind enough to take her and that how was Sandy got its name!

So every now and then, we make an attempt to drop by and cuddle her.

and having her around me really makes my day. She is indeed every one's best friend =)

Weekend. - You have no idea how glad am I that the week is over. I'm currently into my 6th week of postings in CR which mostly consists of medical, surgical, cardiac and ICU, something for a change which I hope isn't as bad as MS.

Woke up with the lights on this morning while waiting for the boyfriends call last night not knowing it was already 3 and I woke the poor guy up not knowing we both knocked out - that shows how tired I get everyday after work.

This years Valentine's, there were no flowers, heart-shaped chocolates, teddy bears or couple t-shirts. We decided to skip the whole trend of eating in fancy restaurants and end up paying triple the price just for that day. So we headed to our favourite road side stall under the old rain tree for the famous kon lou meen and yong tau foo catching up on each others weekday.

At the end of the day, it was an exchange of a hug, a peck on the cheek and a Valentine wish to one another with a smile.

It has been more than a month since I got myself up the rock wall but my feet still haven't gotten used to the shoes yet and the feeling of my toes breaking couldn't last more then 10 minutes. While waiting for the girls, Darryl made me complete most of the single coloured route in the boulder but the pain was too unbearable.

Denise, Janice & Mich came by to get a feel of what climbing is. Everyone was go gung-ho about it it was funny watching each and every one of their expression before and after getting up the wall.

Janice had her height to her advantage but she was too afraid to let go of the wall while Denise and Mich enjoyed themselves up there. But they were all pretty good for a first timer.

It was a good seeing all of them again and we did have a good time, didn't we?

Once again, Happy CNY to all. My CNY was rather a good and something which I was looking forward very much to in the beginning of the year. Ever since my clinical's started, I was constantly marking my calender for public holidays and counting down to it everyday then came Friday which was the first time in 3 weeks that a smile of excitement was placed on every one's
face.

This year's reunion was celebrated with the Choys in KL. This time both my grandparents decided to come down also to avoid everyone getting stuck in the massive traffic jam up North and at the same being able to spend more quality time with their sons too. =)

We were basically stuck in the penthouse trough out the whole new year. A day before the eve, one of the pipeline on one of the floors burst flooding both elevators to shut down hence everyone had to plan their groceries and last minute shopping very well. Climbing 9 flights of stairs is no joke!

Everyone except Dad and Zara was absent. We did leave some space for both of their pictures to be superimposed =) It wasn't as fun without the presence of both of them, but I'm sure dad is having his fair share of fun in Marseilles more than us.

Both my grandparents have a very unique set of grandchildren. They have 3 elder in their early 30's, 2 younger ones in their young teen and 1 odd one in the middle of both.

Since small, I have always been the odd one out in the Choys; the elder ones will be talking about work and college which was way beyond my understanding, while the small ones will be playing computer games and pokemon cards which was passed my time of Barbie and Polly Pocket.

And as time goes by, I'm able to fit into both categories without being the odd one out =)

Through out the whole of this week in the Hand Clinic, I have seen 33 patients in total, 14 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, 8 Dequervain Tenosynovitis, 5 fracture cases and 4 Trigger Finger in total.

I came in the department on the first day fearing of not being able to communicate well with them but they turned out to be very co-operative and friendly and I enjoyed spending every moment with themunfortunately I won't be seeing them in the Hand Clinic anymore as I'll be going over to the Gym tomorrow onwards. As interesting as it sounds I'm not really looking forward to it

And one good thing being in the Hand Clinic is that I have been treating my bruise with ice packs and Ultrasound everyday there's much improvement seen =)

As for now, lets hope next week pass fast.

A very much delayed post which has been hanging under my dashboard for some time. It was a week ago which was my first paintaball game. Being the only girl in the team, Darryl was afraid to let me on the team but I managed to cajole and convince him that I'll be fine. And it was more than that - we trashed the other team by a whooping 4-5. Victory never tasted any better!!

But with great victory bring pays great deal of pain.

When I first got hit it was only a size of a 20 cent coin and soon it metastasize to the map of Asia and became one of the biggest bruise I had in my previous history of bruises. After all its just a bruise and it will go away eventually but it was all worth it because I had lots of fun =)

And I think it became handy in way where I get to request anything from Darryl when people ask me about to my arm. tehehe :p

Rough headstart

As much as I have been wanting to update here, I have been coming dead tired everyday after clinicals. My clinical postings started and I'm still not used to the whole getting up early as well as the hospital environment; truckloads of report and assessment forms to complete, reflective diary to scribble and also plenty of reading to do.

If only there's more time in a day.

I'll come back when I can squeeze some time during the weekends.

The year after

7 minutes before the clock strikes 12 I received this sms from my brother,

"Time to let the ghosts of 2008 past and let the warm cradle of a new year grace you! Cheers to Darry dear and you.."

- and he is so good when it comes to thinking of such short and sweet wishes.

A year passes and another begins. There has been quite some downs in the 08 but also reminding myself that there have been a lot of ups as well but nevertheless, I had I learnt how to look at things on the brighter side making the best out of every situation and at the end of the day I had incredibly support and understanding from my, family, loved ones and friends.

I haven't quite nailed down my goals for 2009 yet, also not wanting to feel bad for not accomplishing them or probably setting and doing it in a monthly basis. Speaking of which, I should start looking for a planner soon!

Because life is about them both, sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we need the downs in life to feel the ups, so if you step back and look at the bigger picture, its all good.

To a better year ahead and Happy New Year, everyone!

Time flies. And I've been too lazy and tired at the same time replacing the unfinished classes. I couldn't express how much I hate the bloody college management right now.

Anyhow, I was invited to Clare's Christmas open house last weekend and it was pretty fun and enjoyable. Its been some time since I attended a traditional Christmas party with carolling and feeling the warmth of Christmas.

The first batch of caroling was by the little kids form the church in Taman Tun that Clare attends and each and every expression on the kids face were priceless and cute! Some were nervous, excited, restless and sleepy - those expressions brought back nostalgic memories during my caroling days in Kerteh.

The food was sumptuous and was close to prefection! We were spoilt by the array of desserts specially prepared by Clare's mum. It sure takes alot of effort and time to put together such gratifying meal.

Later on, we had our very own caroling (for fun) after the youth finished their session.

And I've just realize that the only Christmas Carols I can sing without having much difficulties remembering the lyrics are not other than the common We Wish You A Merry Christmas and The First Noel. Despite of all the Christmas carols we've heard in complex and TV. How depressing! Looks like we have to do this more often again.

The New Good Friend

After many lessons on the basic wall climb, chipped fingernails, bouldering, practicing the figure of 8 rope, belaying, top rope, new harness, I finally became a proud owner of my very first pair of rock climbing shoes!

After trying on so many pairs of shoes, came the Saltic Guru that fits me perfectly! Its isn't easy when it comes to getting a perfect fit for climbing shoes having a wide and flat footed feet leaving alot of air pockets around the heel.

The Evolv EVO caught my attention but unfortunately they were out of sizes but the The Saltic Guru isn't too bad as well. Well know for its well-built, good overall performance and comfort with thin mid sole making it ideal for small edges and features was indeed a good buy!

Then came the painful part where you start climbing with your new shoes and I swear it was the most painful footwear I had in my life!

Forget the pain from shopping with heels, having the flattest pair of shoe on a flat footed feet. Imagine fitting a size 6 into a 3.5 shoe, both feet were cramped up to the point where every individual bone in my foot is breaking after 30 seconds of having the shoes on! The pain was just inadmissible..

Thus, it felt good getting up the wall and being able to fit into any small features and narrow edges. A very different feeling indeed! =)

Hopefully it will be well season for the next climb and by then get jiggy with the new features, explore newer routes with my guru =)

Life after Death

Beginning of the semester has always been light and easy especially during the first 2 weeks, you tend to wake up feeling a little more excited putting on your new shoes for class and the kid in us writing on those freshly smelled notebook with new funky pens.

Sem break was spent in a very relax way, was glad that I had all the time to catch up on all of the unfinished books in the book shelf and the new ones from the last MPH warehouse sale. prices were slashed off at lease 20 ringgit from the original price especially under the kids section. Kid nowadays are just getting luckier and luckier.

Tony Parson's family series are so addictive! Brit writers sure have a way with their humor.

And on the hand, I manage to see the cadaver bodies!! =)

It was an honor being the first batch of physio students to see the cadaver. So basically we had a short tour around the newly set up anatomy lab on the ground floor, the professor gave us a very detailed explanation from the selection and whole process of embalming of the bodies followed by the preservation and shelving of organs in the workshop.

The cadaver wasn't as scary as I have imagined maybe due to the fact that it had been fully dissected leaving only the bare muscles and ligaments soaked in formalin, or maybe we have been toughened up from those live pictures we used to see in those anatomy books in our first year have already . lol

So do try to encourage friends/family/foes to donate your bodies for future medical studies. You never know you might get the extra points getting up there :)

Oh and here's something interesting on fetus growth in a real womb, manage to steal some shots while mingling in the dry lab :)

Just as I hoped all presentations and test would all be over by this week, half of it was postponed, together with replacement classes, and practicals exam all in the following week. So this will be a chillex weekend before the real madness on Monday.

Anyhow, I manage to catch Eagle Eye after class and it was a good stress-relieving show. Somehow, certain scenes from it was like a Deja Vu or maybe the plot was very similar to I-robot and Get Smart but it was scarier when Darryl predicted the exact words from different parts of the scenes. Either he has seen it before me or its was really freaky..

And Shia leBeouf looks much better in this movie, and his twin was cute too =)

It was since secondary school's canteen day that I last tatsed it where the cotton candy man will quietly spins the cotton around the machine which spraying out sugar candy around the bamboo stick and twisted it into a cotton candy cocoon with while we monkeyswere jumping and screaming around for excitement. Finally got my very pair of 'ventilated shorts' for the wall and the color is so sweet!! whee.... Thanks alot dear. Over the weekend Darryl told me he will be signing me up for the Basic Wall Course next week. All together 2 hours of each practical and theory which covers safety practices such as belaying , knots and climbing technique.

Sounds a whole of fun but then again comes the price to pay plus I have been reminded to finish up all important work/assignments before hitting the gym cause its gonna be full 'bed rest' more than 2 days at lease.

Up Up and Away

Drama series are bloody addictive. That explains the long hiatus over here.

I've just finished 40 episodes of Moonlight Resonance, it was a really good story line and strong characters in the cast. Both good and bad characters were played extremely well to the point where you actually feel like punching them from the screen.
Its been some time TVB had such a good series after my old time favourite "The Good Old Days" which Im still unable to find that series in shops and dvd.

Went for a climb with Siew Lee over the weekend, she did not too bad for a first timer. Somehow Camp 5 has always been a relaxing and peaceful place to climb and unwind. Sitting on top of the boulder that overlooks the traffic and One Utama area brings a very Zen like effect.

But minus the times where you get really annoying people (minus those kids running around the place) that really irks you. There was this lady who was beside us and couldn't shut up the whole time making hell alot of noise cursing and grunting every attempt to climb pretty obvious leaching for attention letting her other friend know how tiring it is.

Then came the funny part where she was still on the same wall after Siew Lee and I finished our 2nd route and started to do practice her yoga after coming down. Well she never made it to the top, not even half way =_=

We had a really good warm down after a good shower. Which was another reason why I usually take more than 20 mins inside there. Their rain shower are huge and nice. And that's what you exactly need after a climb =)

The sky's been spitting the whole evening and its been like this for the past 3 hours - blog hopping, Facebook, staring at the gloomy sky and back to the computer screen on my case study.

I have another case study to finish up and a whole neuromusculoskeletal assessment book to finish and that doesn't help with the rate that I'm going now ( like how am I typing this post), going on facebook every 5 minutes and having a productivity rate under zero. And it certainly doesn't help that I'm feeling sleepy under such cold and comfortable weather...

One good thing about waking up early on weekends is that it gains me more hours in a day.

And I think I am jinxed with electrical appliances. =( Firstly, my phone completely died on me last weekend then came the air cond with hot air blowing out from it and the funny thing is that it suddenly became cold just as the maintenance guy came over to look at it and 10 mins after he left, the room became a sauna.

Then came my external hard drive, which also died on me 2 days ago. Luckily all the data was recovered and saved after changing the casing - all 3 happened in a row in a week. Lets just hope that things will get better after this crazy week!

On the other hand, after weeks and months of should i or should i not? contemplation, I finally came to the decision for something different. And with no regrets...

My head feels so so so light and free, I save alot of shampoo, conditioner and drying time too!!

Its been 8 years since I last had short hair and its pretty fun to have it back again after so long =)

Its amazing how fast time flies when you are enjoying it. I was excitingly counting the final days of the postings and soon enough it was already an end of my holidays. So yeah. My holidays finally came to an end.

Good thing that this is going to be a short semester where I don't have to face some lousy lecturers face but on the other hand I only have 6 weeks to till my finals and classes on Saturdays too. How better can it get? =_=

First day of class was like a blow in everyone's face when none of us could recall back the previous semester's lessons. This is gonna be a big rat race against time, no more honeymoon just plain study and hell load of revisions! Don't you just love it when the stress starts kicking in =_=

I love holidays! Holidays are going just prefect the way it is so far, sleeping in, late night movies along with the messed up biological clock. Finally got my hand on PS I Love You, like always, the book was much better then the movie. I couldn't remember when was the last time I wept like like a baby after such sad novel. The book was really good. Darryl got so freaked out the moment he heard me weeping through the phone the poor guy thought I injured myself.

Finding someone you love and who loves you back is a wonderful, wonderful feeling. But finding a true soul mate is an even better feeling. A soul mate is one who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what. They say nothing lasts forever, but I'm a believer in the fact that for some, love lives on even after we're gone.

My cupboard finally had a good spring clean after too many procrastinated attempts . Flummox by the amount of clothes and accessories I have accumulated over the years. Mum was right. Too many clothes!! and I horde too many things including paper bags and wrapping papers with a full bag of merchandise tags. =_= It took me almost the whole day to finally organize everything up to the right place.

Still it was fun looking through every wanted and unwanted stuffs again, while some of it were a reminiscent of a good and happy times.

Stumbled upon a little old friend below which I have not seen for many years. Elbert Lionstein! For those who were in 1 and 3 Kreatif with me in SRP would know who he is. He was constantly kidnapped and bullied by Alex trying to burn his hair and tail while Irving will always come to its rescue and Awie on the other hand would have his little imaginary dialogue with the little Lionstien.

... and my very first gift from from mum. According to her she bought the blue one at first thinking that I would be a boy =( The 'space' was left empty for me to sew my own details on it but sadly unfortunately I suck at sewing!

More sewing lessons from grandma first before I ruin the 'cert'.

Penang

After much procrastination after the end of Penang trip I manage to upload and edit the whole load of pictures from the trip. Nevertheless, its good to be home after so long! :)

Anyhow, here's a short recap on the 1st week of Penang so far.

1st Stop - Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Georgetown

Flamboyant masterpiece of 38 rooms, 5 courtyards, 7 staircases and 220 windows dubbed "La Maison Bleu' took a vert special man to create. Arriving penniless from Guandong, Cheong Fatt Tze grew to become one of the most historic and colorful personalities of the era.

The mansion was reputed to be only one of two such buildings of this size, outside of China and the most perfected. A typical of the 19th century Straits Settlements architecture matched with Gothic louvred windows, Chinese cut and paste porcelain work, Stroke on Trent floor tiles, Scottish cast iron works and Art Nouveau stained glass were found to be in this inspired work of art.

The most disappointing part was that we couldn't tour the upstairs due to a filming in progress which was quite a rip off. Bloody filming company! Instead of having a full tour around the mansion the guide (which wasn't really her fault) had no choice but to elaborate more on the architecture and explained almost everything in the archive room.

Photography inside the mansion was already strictly prohibited and half way throughout the tour one of the crew didn't allow us to go up. We didn't just pay 12 bucks while some travelled hundred of mile just to visit the archive room. So much for promoting tourism in the country. Stupid production crew!

Anyhow, the tour was good and educational.

2nd stop - Khoo Kongsi

I didn't enjoy that place as much as the Mansion. Those towering paintings in the temple gave a very empty and eerie feeling. The guys were already screaming their heads off wining about the heat and office shoes that their in ;p

Wonder if there are is a Pak Konsi/community after confirming with my dad that the Pak surname isn't from Korea but China so I'm pretty sure my ancestors planted their roots here. Do let me know if anyone has came across that place. :)

Steamboat and BBQ for dinner after the outing. Spread wasn't as good but everyone had fun with the bbq. Good thing that no food was wasted and finished everything we took except for Jeff's luncheon meat floating inside the pot.

Didn't know barbecuing clams were so fun!

very entertaining.

Postings are officially over which marks an end to my Penang holiday. So far its been a great, fun and never ending learning experience. Seen and tasted the best of everything in Penang. Being quite picky with food I have actually learnt to be more adventurous and not so 'sei pan' with food which was a quite a huge accomplishment =)

After 2 and a half weeks in Penang I,

1. Broke my hokkien virginity. For once I could order food in hokkien and my patients could understand my instructions.

2. Tasted what the locals ate

3. Had the most supper that I could account for.

4. Handled with so many stroke patients and also made a very un-coperative patient responsive which was so far one of my best accomplishments this time so far.

Thought its been only less than a day since I left Penang I'm already starting to miss that place =(

Busy, busy, busy

Since my blog (darrylsien.blogspot.com) has not been updated in a long time due to me being damn lazy and out of nonsense to blog about, I have decided to help my dear gf update hers instead. She hasn't been updating her blog recently due to her posting and for that, I'll try to amuse readers here.

Nothing much for me this holiday besides going for photoshoots with my boss. Recent one was for a show that you guys would get to watch on Astro (one of the movie channels. and I'm not revealing anything). Classes starting soon and I dread being in Wisma Help instead of being in KPD E. Real Monkey of the gAy Level students to move into Block E.

I love food!

The one thing that we look forward to everyday is our breakfast and lunch breaks. During the first few days in NASAM we were pretty much dying of boredom everyday waiting for patients to arrive so the only one thing that makes us happy was by thinking of what and where to eat. Right after breakfast we will start making lunch plans, the food over here is so much cheaper all ranging from RM2.60 - RM3.50 . Still consider cheap la.

So this is what we do after lunch.

The park is just behind NASAM and it has a really beautiful landscape with lots of huge rain trees and exercise machines for the kids and elderly.

Youth Park Penang

Having an enormous park with huge rain trees and flowers as well as playgrounds for the kids and elderly just behind NASAM which has became a good hangout place for us during our excess time.

And imagine 2 girls and 3 guys dressed with slacks and uniform walking around the park at 1 in the afternoon playing around the park. We have raised many eyebrows of most people in the park. lol.

Had a good time spending my moolah on a little retail therapy tee hee!! Shopping is fun but shopping in a sale with 'the item' you have been eyeing for so long looks like Charlie in front of the Chocolate Stall and with it on a discounted price is just like Charlie winning the Golden Ticket to the Chocolate factory. haha. Thats how happy I feel every time when my eyed items are on sale! =)

I'm in the land of 'char kuey teow' and assam laksa. Just checked out NASAM awhile ago with Xiang Ping and the place is really small. =( Postings will be starting tomorrow!! But Oh well I'm not gonna judge the place just by the size but hoping for the best and feeling very excited about tmr!!

On the other note, my classmate's place is very interesting and unique. I'll be staying there with her throughout the 2 weeks of postings in Penang. Typical heritage house more than 50 years old. Pretty cool eh?

Neways I'm off to sleep now. Another long and exciting day tmr! Till then.

Raindrops and Roses

Finals are 3/4 ly over which leaves one last practical tmr. 3 Major papers including Malaysian Studies were over! Relief. Indeed! And doing the most unusual thing by studying for Malaysian Studies. I studied fof it! despite of those irksome 4 hour classes every week which till now I still have no idea why would the Malaysian govt would be so lifeless to make that subject compulsory despite of studying Sejarah for the whole 11 years of our academic years.

While most college requires only a pass for this subject the stupid college of mine actually takes it as part of out CGPA. Damn stupid right? Even though I passed that paper 2 donkey years ago I was given a choice either to be exempted or retake it again. However, to be exempted they could only give me a maximum GPA of 2.0 so if I resit it again I might be able increase my CGPA. So that pretty much explains the reason I'm studying so hard for it. :p

Recalling the Ausmat time, neither one of us studied for that paper what more paying attention in classes? Sudoku, Word Hunt, Rocky Chocolate sticks, Ipod, Comics, Bingo. you name it. were practically what we did to keep ourselves 'occupied' during that class. I still miss those times =(

As for this morning, everyone of my classmate is seen with the notes in their hands memorizing from the Constitution and Acts of the government. Feeling bad and guilty for sitting around while the rest was studying so I ended up doing the same. Nevertheless, it was the first time that I crap my way out of the paper when it came to the 'perlembagaan' part it was funny how I changed some of the Acts and Tugas -tugas Raja. =_=

Compared to last last year's Ausmat Malaysian Studies I manage to answer most of the questions with a logical and right answer.

p/s: Loved the weather this afternoon, finally a changed for those long humid days. Running in the rain can be fun but running with an over sized raincoat has never felt so good!
